Why Sweet Cases for Sweet Faces

On any given day in our community there are an estimated 2,100 children in the foster care system in Douglas and Sarpy County (fiscal year July 2016 to June 2017), it is important that they know they matter. As children enter foster care they often arrive carrying little more than the clothes on their backs. If they are given the opportunity to take any personal belongings, they are usually given a trash bag to carry their items. During a time of crisis and instability they are headed to their first of many foster homes carrying nothing more than that trash bag.

At Sweet Cases for Sweet Faces Fundraiser we believe that every child deserves to be treated with love and have a sense of dignity.

Since 2015 Sweet Cases for Sweet Faces Fundraiser has been partnering with Together We Rise a 501(c)3 organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of children as they enter foster care.

We believe that by providing a child with something as basic as a duffel bag filled with essential and comforting items, such as a blanket, teddy bear, tooth brush and tooth paste and a coloring book with crayons we are giving that child a sense that someone cares about what they are going through and what happens to them.

About Us

April Sevilla - President

April started Sweet Cases for Sweet Faces Fundraiser in 2015 when she came across a story about children receiving trash bags to hold their belongings as they entered foster care. April recalls feeling heart broken that at such a traumatic time in their lives that they were being given trash bags instead of duffel bags. After learning that, that was in fact happening in her our own community she knew that she wanted to do something to help change that.

Although April herself was not in the foster care system, she does remember having child protective services involved in her life as a small child. Feeling a sense of understanding to some of the things these children face when living with physical and emotional abuse is really what inspired her to partner with Together We Rise.

"What started with a small bake sale has really turned into something much bigger and is creating a lot larger of an impact. I am so grateful for the communities support in helping me make a difference in the lives of children in our community as they enter the foster care system. Dignity, Compassion, Love; every child deserves that." ~ April Sevilla

April is a local Jefferson Awards Foundation Recipient. She is the October 2018 winner and her story can be seen on KPTM Fox42.
